Help Blue, and the Spice family, make beautiful aquatic tunes. First, fill the jars with water from the water pitcher. Then plunk the glass with a spoon to create one of five possible pitches. An empty jar will make a high sound. Filling the glasses will lower the pitch. We resonated the kitchenware with a tiny excerpt from Beethovens Fifth Symphony, a snippet from The Sea and Sinbads Ship, and very small piece of Tchaikovskys The Nutcracker Suite. Blue can introduce music and pitch to kids in a fun and playful way!

Sean's Magic Slate is a freeware coloring program for Windows. It's a fun and easy way to create colorful drawings. It's based on just one of the ten activities included in the shareware game I Live At Santa's House.
Oktagon A pair of eight-sided puzzles
Oktagon gives you two puzzles in one. The first comes direct from the caravan of Geometricus the Gypsy in the shareware game Uncle Julius and the Anywhere Machine. It's a shape puzzle, in which your task is to combine a set of irregular pieces into an octagon (8-sided figure).
In Oktagon's second puzzle, you have to re-align six nested octagonal rings by rotating them into position. It looks easy, but every time you turn one ring, one or two others turn as well. You have to plan carefully to win this one!
We have just placed the first of six shapes onto the empty octagon. Since the octagon is symmetrical, we could have placed this piece in any of eight different ways. With one piece now in position, however, the others can be placed in one way only. The pieces along the bottom of the puzzle are at one-third scale. As you drag them upwards, they expand to their true size.
The numbered buttons select how many pieces you want to use. An eight-piece puzzle is much more difficult than a four-piece one. The "Game 2" button takes you to the other puzzle game in this set.
In the picture above, the game has been continued, and three pieces are now in place. Can you see how the remaining three will fit? (Hint: one of them will have to be rotated.)
Valvo A strategy game of chance and skill
Valvo is a strategy game that combines extremely simple rules with unexpectedly subtle tactical possibilities. Like Backgammon, Valvo is a race game in which your tactical thinking is complicated by an element of chance. Valvo is much easier than Backgammon to learn and to play, however - you will master the rules in the first minute or two.
The computer has just opened this round of Valvo by advancing its token (red) to a yellow square, opening the yellow "valves". The human now has the choice of moving either two or three squares: the three-square move is better by far.
Your aim in Valvo is to race up and down the "lanes" on the board until you arrive at your opponent's starting square. The first player to do this wins the round. On each turn you are given a choice of two moves. On about half your turns your choice is between moves of two and three squares, as in the turn about to take place in the game above. On the other turns, you can move either one or two squares.
The only complicating factor is the presence of the "valves", the colored areas embedded in the lane dividers. Landing on a colored square opens the valves of the corresponding color for your opponent's next move. When your opponent's piece lands on a square with an open valve, it travels across the divider into a neighboring lane, shortening or lengthening its journey.
These very simple rules produce unexpectedly subtle tactical possibilities. The color distribution for the squares and the valves is randomly assigned at the start of each round.
Pic-Tac-Toe Similar to 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe
Pic-Tac-Toe is a two-player strategy game. If you've ever played 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe you'll understand the basic concept, but this variation is both simpler and more fun to play.
You can play Pic-Tac-Toe against another person or against any of several levels of computer opponent. You can vary the appearance of the game, too, by selecting from among the four supplied tile sets - even in the middle of a game.
The computer, playing the tiles with yellow backgrounds, has just won this game of Pic-Tac-Toe by completing a row of "rabbit" tiles.
Pic-Tac-Toe's game controls are grouped in the panel on the left side of the window. The four buttons around the title let you pick from the available tile sets (animals, trees, flowers and symbols) separately or in any combination. Clicking on either the Player 1 or the Player 2 box lets you pick a new player name. The odd little button between these boxes exchanges the two players. The Rules button at the bottom will give you a quick visual summary of the winning tile combinations.
Venables Another very unique strategy game
Venables is an abstract two-player strategy game with a special twist: instead of moving your pieces yourself, you control them indirectly by means of a cursor on an auxiliary board where the "squares" are icons specifying the moves you will make on the main board. Other unusual features of Venables are that you can make more than one move on the same turn, and capture more than one piece in a single move.
Despite its novel features, Venables is easy to learn, and the computer itself provides a patient opponent while you're getting used to the game.
It is the human player's turn to move first in this game of Venables. Instead of manipulating the pieces on the main board directly, the player makes single-step moves on her side's auxiliary board (called the Indirect Color Control, or ICC).
The indirect method of moving one's pieces is perhaps the most striking feature of Venables. The ICC has 25 icons, each consisting of a differently-colored combination of an arrow and a circle. Selecting a given icon causes all your pieces currently on squares of the arrow color to move onto a neighboring square of the circle color, if there is one. If any pieces move onto occupied squares, the occupying piece (whether your own or your opponent's) is removed from play. The winner is the first player to eliminate all of the opponent's pieces.
Another interesting feature of Venables is a turn may consist of multiple moves. Your turn ends only if you make a move that affects only one of your pieces, and/or that captures one or more enemy pieces.
Hierophant Restore the mystic symbol
Hierophant is a solitaire puzzle game in which your task is to restore the scrambled pieces of a mysterious symbol, which is different each time you play. The puzzle is rather like a two-dimensional Rubik's Cube, though much easier to solve. Hierophant is a contemplative game with no time limit. Use it to relax. You control the complexity of the puzzle to create the challenge that's right for you.
This game of Hierophant is being played on a puzzle grid (left middle of picture) of 4 columns by 3 rows. You can set the size of the grid using the controls at the bottom left - it can be as small as 3 by 3 or as large as 5 by 5. Clicking one of the arrow buttons around the grid (or pressing the corresponding key) slides a single row or column in the direction of the arrow. Squares that "fall off" one side of the grid reappear on the other. In this particular game, the left-hand side of the symbol has been restored but the right-hand side has not (compare the puzzle grid with the model version on the right). Can you see how to proceed?
Jumble Unscramble the secret phrase
Jumble is a word game for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. The object is to solve "JumbleGrams": well-known phrases that you can decode only by deducing which of several different possible letters to use for each letter of the answer. You can play Jumble alone or in a group, competitively or co-operatively, against the clock or at your own leisurely pace.
We supply two "phrase books" with Jumble. One features proverbs, cliches and catchphrases; the other is a list of over 200 Beatles song titles. You can modify our phrase books from within the game, and even create new ones for yourself or others to enjoy.
Jumble features scoring information for multiple players, and an intuitive user interface.
The clock is paused at 1:58 in this game of Jumble as the current phrase ("Words can never hurt me") has just been decoded. The player must now press Enter or hit the Next phrase button to carry on with the game.
